All have one thing in common, a deep connection to the shore. Cathy Martin began drawing when she could hold a pencil and did her first painting at age ten. She paints with a loose, rapid style that truly captures her feelings at the moment that the paint strikes her canvas. Her paintings are spontaneous and flooded with bright colors. She is an honest painter who sees the world in her own way but has been greatly influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, the Fauves, and Alfred Chadborne. Plein aire painting is her first love and travels to France, Spain, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Morocco and the U.S. have been her inspiration. She studied art beginning at a young age with private instruction, and continued at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, East Carolina University, Meredith College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and with Charles Sovek and Marcia Burtt. |

Washington, NC artist, Pat Holscher's paintings emphasize strong design and high value contrast. Pat says, "I feel that painting provides a way to capture that which is special in the world, and it also enables me to share those insights with others." Pat has studied art at Meredith College and East Carolina University, and trained under many nationally recognized artists. Carol Tokarski , is a graduate of Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mi. Carol has worked in arts administration since the 1970s from Wisconsin to South Carolina, she is currently Director of the Craven County Arts Council and Gallery and has lived in North Carolina since 1983. Carol is best known for her large paintings of palms, which are in collections across the country. Sally Anger grew up in the coastal town of Beaufort North Carolina, surrounded by the beauty of North Carolina's outer banks and the Atlantic Ocean. She has loved art all her life, and has attended workshops and painted for many years. In 2002 she took the plunge and left a career as a nutritionist to pursue art full time. Her paintings offer a glimpse into a realm where the prosaic images of life are transformed into the exotic and the extraordinary. Her canvases are forged in realism and tempered with impressionistic and abstract elements, all subtly alloyed to present a compelling and intelligent look at her subjects. Sally Sutton enjoys the challenge of capturing light and experimenting with rich, bright color combinations, contrasting them with deep shadows. When Sally asked about her paintings she says: "I grew up with Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Bonnard, Gauguin, and Munch. As a child I would get out the large heavy book of paintings and spend hours going through it until I was living in visions of great works of art. I was especially attracted to Impressionism and wondered about effects of light and color. "Lately my work has been gravitating more toward Impressionism and bordering at times on Expressionism. I am passionate about bold brush strokes and ticker paint application. Much of my inspiration comes from local landscapes my feelings of excitement about a place, see mystery in the shadows or perhaps feel the warmth of a sunny day at the beach. I am compelled to paint a scene in the way that it affects me. Many of my paintings have urgency about them in style while some are languid and relaxed. Just as my emotions change, so does the canvas." Tim Hergenrader, also known as T. Rader, is a native Nebraskan who found it increasingly difficult to paint seascapes from the Great Plains. So, he quit his "regular" job, packed up his belongings and moved to New Bern. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Tim works exclusively in oils. Frequent trips down east give him an endless source of inspiration. Mike Rooney was born and raised in Northern Virginia and studied art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. After four years in the Air Force he moved to North Carolina and began painting full time in 2006. He has always loved the coast and surfing, so he found a small camper near North Topsail Beach, NC several years ago and now spends a great deal of time there, and up and down the NC coast, painting its landscapes, coastal scenes and water-related subjects. This work will be on display from July 1 - August 30. For more information call the gallery at 252-633-4369 or visit Carolina Creations Website at www.carolinacreations.com.
