Steven received a BA in Journalism/Advertising and a Masters of Visual Arts with a major in Ceramics.

He and his wife Lynn live in a land trust near the Blue Ridge Parkway in a passive solar home with beautiful mountain views.

His work is also part of numerous corporate, private and museum collections throughout the U.S., and in Canada, Europe and Japan. He's been featured in publications, such as Ceramics Monthly, and books such as Ceramics Spectrum, second edition; Clay and Glazes for the Potter, third edition; and Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel by Don Davis.

Steven has taught ceramics at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, and at Odyssey Center of Ceramic Arts as well as at Metchosin Summer School for the Arts in Victoria, BC, Canada; Pots and Paints near Los Cabos, Mexico; John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC; Studio of the Woods in Kentucky; East Tennessee State University, Georgia State University, Arrowmont School of Crafts, Miami of Ohio University and recently at the Spring Island, SC Art Center.

He has developed a new, unique surface, which he calls a “halo/opal” glaze. Wherever light strikes this reticulated surface, it seems to radiate from a point, creating a halo. His glaze contains copper, silver and often stained glass to add a new dimension to his work.
