Paul was introduced to the art of glassblowing in 1978 when he got the opportunity to watch a glassblower work and this experience changed his life. He went on to receive his BA in Glass/Ceramics in 1983 and his MA in Glass 1985, both from California State Fullerton University.
He studied with Dick Marquis at Haystack School of Crafts in 1990 and with Lino Taliapiatra at Haystack in 1991. He became a production glassblower where he worked in various California glass studios from 1984 to 1985.
