Brenda holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University in New York State. In June of 2003, after more than 30 years as a successful advertising art director and graphic designer in Minneapolis, Brenda returned home to North Carolina. The artist has sold her work in galleries and art centers throughout the state and is quickly growing in popularity and demand. Brenda paints much of her work on location, considering plein air painting to be the most challenging and evocative way to paint. Brenda is seldom without her sketchbooks and paints. Her good nature and innate interest in people as human beings and as subjects make her a fun artist to follow.

Her paintings are in private collections across the United States, in England, France and Japan, and in corporate collections that include the University of North Carolina, Captive-Aire Systems, New Century Bank, Parker Poe, and First South Bank.

Potter Jim Bisbee began creating wheel thrown pottery over a decade ago with lessons from a master potter. Pottery is a creative outlet to balance Jim's career as an engineer. Over the years he has continued to expand his skills and knowledge by personal exploration, by attending seminars, and most recently by attending classes at East Carolina University.

Today in retirement Jim devotes himself to expressing his respect for the past in each vessel he creates.

Jim's work centers on household utensils which call to mind a time when life was less rushed and family experiences were shared daily at the dinner table. Jim's creations are designed to be used and consist of many of the items found in an 18th century kitchen.

T Rader, aka Tim Herkenrader, is a native Nebraskan who found it increasingly difficult to paint seascapes from the Great Plains. So, he quit his "regular" job, packed up his belongings and moved to New Bern.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska, he is primarily self-taught, although he has taken art classes at several community colleges. Tim works exclusively in oils, because, he says, "I like the smell and feel of them." He occasionally paints wildlife. He is particularly fond of birds and began his career painting waterfowl. For this show he has a new painting of the New Bern skyline looking from the Bridgeton side of the Neuse River.

Ruth Heppler says, "I take great pride in being a self taught artist and was interested in painting since early childhood. I was fortunate enough to be employed by the world famous Joel Meisner Art Foundry in New York. This is where I met many famous artists. It seemed the more famous they were the more free they were with their advice. A day never went by with out learning something new. It was like having private lessons from many of the very best teachers and artists.

I retired early to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a full time artist. I am no longer pressured to earn a living so that my goal is to turn out the very best paintings that I am capable of doing. The "American Artists Professional League" has honored me by accepting me as a member of their art club.

Painting has always been a challenge. It is never boring, there is always something new to explore. Whether it be a new tube of paint or a new brush. The time of day changes everything and so does the time of year."

These are just a few of the artists whose work you will see during the show "POP!"
